Being a Mom is the Most Thankless Job

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

We are nannies,

housekeepers,

taxi drivers,

chefs,

personal shoppers,

nurses,

camp counselors,

event coordinators,

tutors,

financial planners...

The list goes on! WE ARE TIRED! We slave all day every day from the moment we get out of bed to the time we finally shut our eyes for the night. But even then, our dreams are full of our offspring running around in all directions and us worrying about something that might not even be a real thing at all.

And how are we paid? With a "day off" once a year that we can't even get right. We are woken up early to sticky fingers handing us our breakfast in bed. We scoff down burnt eggs the best we can with a smile on our face.

Then we clean up the crumbs and go down to clean the mountain of dishes piled high in the sink. Because somehow that one meal required every pot, pan, and dish to be pulled out and used.

Our "lovely" gift is a piece of paper with pasta glued on that we were planning on making dinner with. But we can't say anything because it's supposed to be the most beautiful artwork we have ever seen.

Our days are always endless. Sometimes it feels like something straight out of "Groundhog's Day". But a mommy edition where our hair is always up in a messy bun, we are sweaty by 9am even though we're not at a gym, and we have changed our shirt three times in one day.

Our kids expect everything from us, and we deliver every time. And do we ever hear a "thank you"?

Nope!

But I know we wouldn't have it any other way. That's just the way it is.

Those beautiful creatures thank us in their own ways by simply being and loving us in return with hugs, kisses, and the occasional, "Mom, can you hold me?". Even when you thought those days were long gone.

So even though we are extremely under paid, I know we can say we are happy our minions chose us to be their mommies. It really is the best thankless job in the world!
