5 Best Stroller Friendly Trails in San Diego

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

Here are some of our favorite, beautiful, and wonderfully paved paths for strollers or others still needing wheels.

If you live or find yourself visiting San Diego, below are some of our favorite stroller and handicap accessible trails in the area. These trails are well maintained and are pretty easy to access.

These were some of our favorite spots to go for a stroll when we lived in San Diego. I hope you enjoy them, too!

1. Liberty Station

(This image is of an unpaved trail at Liberty Station that hugs the river and runs parallel to the paved walkway.)

You can start the main parts of the trail behind Corvette Diner, by the USS Recruit, or at any of the parking areas in between. Doing the entire trail from one side and back is about 1 mile. There are some restrooms and a nice playground area at the halfway point.

2. Mission Bay Park

There are many different parking lots and trails to this park. It’s big and gorgeous. After you’re done jogging or walking, you can relax by the water. This park also has multiple playgrounds around its trails for kids to get their energy out.

3. Mission Beach

The boardwalk at Mission Beach is a very nice straight and flat path to go jogging or walking with your stroller. Although, I would advise that you go during the week if you can. This place is packed on weekends and holidays. It can make moving around, or even finding parking, very difficult.

4. Balboa Park

There are trails all over this beautiful and historic park. If you park on the street by the rose garden or desert garden, you can access the Florida Canyon Trail. If you do that trail, make sure to pack a lot of sunscreen and water. There is no shade. This is also a very nice place to just walk around and observe the sites. There is a lot to see from gardens to museums. If you are a resident of San Diego or a military family, check out their website. On Tuesdays, they have free admission to some of their museums.

5. The San Diego Zoo

This is a great place to walk around. It’s huge and the parking is free! I bought a pass and went back multiple times. I only did the whole park in one day once. It took about 5 hours, and I was very sore the next day. You can’t obviously jog around here. But you will get a great workout between the distance and all the hills.

If you ever find yourself with little ones in San Diego, I hope this post gives you ideas of where to go. The important thing is that you get out and move. Enjoy the sunny and 70-degree weather.

Happy trails!
