Hello

Welcome to my unique and heartfelt parenting blog! I hope you enjoy all the posts and content I share. The purpose of this blog is to give parents resources and ideas on adventures and activities to do with their kids based on personal experiences. The site also has stories and tips for military families, as we are one ourselves! Please continue reading under "My Story" to learn a little more about us. Don't forget to share! Thank you.

My Story

My husband and I met about 15 years ago as lifeguards right out of high school. Soon after, he began planning to join the Navy. As time went on, he did just that. We began a long-distance relationship so I could finish college, and then after six years of dating (3 of which were long-distance), finally married.

Just after tying the knot, I joined my husband at his 1st duty station- Yokosuka, Japan. I had always loved traveling and was so excited for the adventures that awaited us as a military family. We didn't have kids yet, but I already had dreams to create some sort of blog related to military families and traveling to share our experiences. And thus began collecting notes and pictures to document adventures, and eventually have the content to share.

After a couple of years overseas, we then made our way back to the States. Our next location was Bath, Maine- after a brief stay in Norfolk and Dahlgren, Virginia.  There he was attached to the USS Zumwalt, which was still in its pre-commissioning stage. Shortly after arriving in Maine, we realized we were expecting our oldest son!

About four months after his birth, we then moved to San Diego, California. We were there for about 2.5 years. Because of the location and weather, we were able to frequently venture out and check out so many different places. All those outings and all the crazy experiences we had already been through confirmed that I did indeed want to finally launch my blog, but of course, now wanted to add the parenting element to it since it was obviously a big part of our lives. And so, I continued to collect pictures and notes.

We finally made our way to Lake County, Illinois after our time in California. My husband was attached to the Navy's only boot camp, Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was an RDC during his time at RTC. It has been about 3.5 years since we moved to the area, and still love it! In that time we have had two more sons!

The pandemic hit during our time here. While I was busy as a mom, I have always managed to work a part-time job or remotely from home. Unfortunately, COVID took that from me. My mind wasn't going to allow me to be idle. So being home with my three little boys finally gave me the time to compile my thoughts and create "Mom's Compass".

The idea for the name came because as parents, we sometimes seek guidance from others based on what they've been through. As a military wife and mom with a love of traveling and countless stories to share, I felt that I could offer guidance and help point people in the right direction, or at least steer them clear from unwanted things.

Thank you for reading my story and I hope you enjoy "Mom's Compass"!
